PianoDisc Hybrid Piano FAQs
Discover more about this incredible self-playing, silent practice and pro recording system.
What is a player piano?
A player piano is a self-playing piano, capable of producing music on the instrument without an actual (live) performer. A well-known self-playing piano is the pianola player piano that was powered by foot peddles with music recorded on paper rolls.
The PianoDisc system is a modern and sophisticated hybrid piano version of the original pianola player piano that plays from digital MIDI files. The PianoDisc hybrid piano combines an acoustic piano with digital technology. The PianoDisc system is able to produce massively higher-quality and nuanced performances that the pianolas (or other digital player pianos for that matter).
What is PianoDisc?
PianoDisc is a self-playing piano system that converts your traditional acoustic piano into a hybrid piano capable of using digital technology. In effect, your original acoustic piano becomes an automated player piano able to perform live performances from special digital music recordings.
In addition to the player piano functionality, the PianoDisc system also offers optional digital recording and silent piano playing capabilities.
Can I install the PianoDisc system myself?
No. The PianoDisc hybrid piano system requires trained and experienced piano technicians for installation.
What is the cost of installing a PianoDisc system?
The PianoDisc installation cost is dependent upon the model and make of the piano itself, plus the transportation cost of shipping the piano to and from the piano technician workshop. Contact us for more information and / or a quote.
If you are purchasing a new piano from us, we offer special deals that include the PianoDisc installation costs. The system will come pre-installed and be ready to use upon delivery of your new piano.
What piano brands can PianoDisc be installed on?
PianoDisc can be installed on almost any brand and model of acoustic piano. If you don’t already have an acoustic piano of your own, choose one of our beautiful Wertheim acoustic pianos and we can pre-install the PianoDisc system before delivery.
Can I purchase the Silent Piano playing system by itself?
No, that is not possible. Originally, the piano recording and silent piano systems were separate (and individually, similarly priced). The new system integrates most of the functionality and hardware into the Pro Record system with the Silent Piano play system being an optional addon at only a very modest increase in cost.
What selection of music is there available for player pianos?
The PianoDisc music store is recognised as having the largest available catalogue of songs and artists of any player piano system. There is a wide variety of music across a broad selection of genres.
