Piano Tuning is Essential
Keeping your piano in tune is more important than you might think...
Listening to an out-of-tune piano can be an almost painful experience. The clash of discordant notes can be a distraction and negatively impact the joy of playing.
Having your piano tuned regularly is an investment that gives you a beautifully in-tune piano that you'll enjoy both playing and listening to. Additionally, ongoing piano tuning helps keep your instrument properly maintained and will help avoid costly repairs later on.
Pitch
Pitch is having the piano close to the A440 reference frequency. As the ear is always listening, true ear training needs true pitch. Whilst a young musician's concept of pitch is developing, keeping the instrument close to A440 is extremely important.
Touch
Having a technician regularly service the felts and hammers of a piano keeps the piano action regulated to the correct touch, an action that is too loose, or too tight will fail to train the fingers, hands, and wrists of developing players, and in some cases can lead to injury.
Tone
Tone is about how the piano is voiced to achieve the ultimate tone whilst taking into account the acoustic qualities of the room the instrument is in. A beautiful tone will draw out the best and most expressive performance of the player.
Each of the elements above are important when purchasing and owning a piano. One vital factor to note, however, is that the tone of the piano will change depending upon the room it is situated in.
Speak with one of our piano consultants to explain this to you. If you are purchasing an acoustic piano from us, our installers can help voice your piano to your music room so that you get the right tone. Even our digital pianos can be set up so that you get the desired tone for the room they are in.
Pitch and regulation can be tested at the piano showroom you are buying the piano from and you should ask the piano consultant to explain this to you.
You will know if you like the tone of the piano before you purchase it BUT, it will sound different when you put it in your music room.
An experienced piano consultant will know a piano technician that will voice your new piano in your music room.
